Call for Artists-Pumpkin Artists
The Merrick Art Gallery is holding a special exhibition this October and is seeking artists for Illumination-The Art of the Pumpkin. The Merrick hopes to feature the unique talents of area pumpkin carvers, painters or decorators but with a twist. Only non-Halloween themed pumpkins will be accepted. Acceptable themes suggested but not restricted to are: Autumnal, Scenic, Carved Portraits, Abstract or Architectural carvings, Painted scenes or designs, Decorated pumpkins with glass jewels or studs, etc. Multiple pumpkins in small vignettes are also encouraged.
Thematic ideas are available at the museum or on the website. Illuminated pumpkins are to be lit with battery candles or electric lights only. Some size restrictions will apply. Those submitting work must deliver to the Merrick between October 15 and October 16, 2014. The exhibition will run from Friday evening October 17 to Saturday afternoon, October 25, 2014. Prizes will be awarded.
Artists wishing to submit may sign up at the Merrick Art Gallery, 1100 Fifth Avenue, New Brighton or submit an application via the Merrick website at www.themerrickartgallery.org. by October 5, 2014.

New Brighton Revisited
Book Debut and Signing

The Merrick Art Gallery is pleased to announce the book debut and signing of New Brighton Revisited on Sunday, October 26, 2014. Books will be available for purchase from 1 pm - 4 pm. Copies of her first book History of America – New Brighton will also be available. There will also be a short lecture at 1:30 pm by the author Karen Helbling. Karen Helbling was born and raised on Oak Hill in New Brighton and is a past president of the New Brighton Historical Society. She was editor of Milestones: The Journal of Beaver County History and was a copy editor at the Beaver County Times where she penned a weekly column, Looking Back. When not traveling, Helbling and her husband own and operate the Started From Seed Greenhouse on their 100 - acre family farm.
